Wait, wha!? I never thought Serra was dumb, but she threw herself into the ‘brawling pirate’ role pretty hard. Then again, she *was* reading that book on advanced wave driving dynamics…
Also, these two are adorable with each other. I love Nikol’s interference at the end.
She does seem very rash and tactless, and that’s because she is; but from her dialogue in the prologue she seems to know quite a bit about the science of sailing, she just hasn’t received many opportunities to demonstrate that knowledge (also, she was shown up pretty bad by Spaz in ‘http://70-seas.com/?p=2407′).
Okay, we knew Serra was sharp, but this is all kinds of cool – she’s a professor of aquatic physics! Apparently, that’s a thing here. I love all the foreshadowing you’ve put into this, while, at the same time, not giving us a single clue to the reality. This is the mystery answer that readers look at and then kick themselves for a month for not catching…
It’s nice to know that she went to sea for more rational reasons than an imploding marriage, or following in the footsteps of her father the jerk.
And because I really like it, I’ll re-iterate it – this was an awesome and smooth twist.
whoa there, Serra tweren’t no professor. Dissertations are written in order to get a degree. Schools tend not to require them for bachelor’s degrees anymore, but in the olden days they relied on them more along with oral examination.
Oh. Still. Bachelor of Science isn’t anything to sneeze at.
I also meant to comment that Janet does good work – how many guys in the world could snag Serra’s attention like that?
I may have to adjust my shipping chart…

I smell a new shipmate!
Or maybe that’s just my Fanon i’m smelling…

Aww, Nikol wants a Daddy!
Honestly, I think Nikol just wants to ditch Janet and Serra so she can hang out with Daisy.
Um, that first part of my comment is supposed to be viewed in “Janet-Vision” (trademark pending)
Also, I love that in panel 3 Daisy has no idea whats going on. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Y_7P9Ce9Uc
